What's that texture???!!!

Reticulation is a torch-created texture which is achieved by repeated of heating and cooling of sterling silver. During this process, much of the copper alloy is burned away from the surface...leaving a different melting temperature in the middle layer of metal. This differential allows for melting the inner layer without breaking the surface tension and thus creating amazing textures on the surface. This becomes the "canvas" for many of the designs you see here.

In Memory

I'd like to take time to remember my friend and mentor, Charles Duncan, who passed away a few weeks ago. It was truly Charles who taught me "everything I know" about making jewelry. His influence is evident in every piece I design, from the texture of reticulation to the method of gold fusion which was uniquely his. My torch will continue to burn in his honor always...

Truly Refreshing

I received a real compliment this week when I applied to the Boulder City Fine Arts Festival. A member of the jury telephoned me to question whether I really hand-fabricated my jewelry. I appreciated that the jury felt my work looked professional enough to be manufactured. I was also thrilled that in this economy, where many art festivals are so desperate for booth fees, the jury was truly upholding a standard of hand-made art. The experience was very refreshing.
